Just after 9 p.m. Wednesday, two Israeli Embassy staff members were shot and killed outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington D.C.
The two victims were leaving the Young Diplomats Reception, an annual event, hosted by the American Jewish Committee when Elias Rodriguez, approached them, opened fire on them at close range, and left them dead. Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Miligrim, a couple who were about to get engaged next week.
Rodriguez, a 30-year-old Chicago native turned himself in and was yelling “Free, Free Palestine” as he was apprehended. Rodriguez was said to have been pacing back and forth outside the museum before approaching the couple.
Authorities are questioning Rodriguez and have the handgun he used. Mayor Muriel Bowser believes there aren’t any additional active threats to the community.
President Trump posted on Truth Social, “These horrible D.C. killings, based obviously on antisemitism, must end, NOW! Hatred and Radicalism have no place in the USA.
Condolences to the families of the victims. So sad that such things as this can happen! God Bless You All!”
