TSA to End Shoe Removal at Some Airports

Good news for airport passengers – the Travel Security Administration (TSA) is now allowing passengers to go through security checkpoints with their shoes on at several airports nationwide.

TSA says they have made technological advancements and they are “exploring new and innovative ways to enhance the passenger experience and our strong security posture.”

Shoe removal became a requirement in 2006 due to Richard Reid trying (but failing) to ignite his homemade shoe explosives on an American Airline flight in 2001.

Travelers still need to hold a Real ID to get through security.
