Following Sunday's 9-3 win over the San Diego Padres, the Colorado Rockies announced that longtime skipper Bud Black, the winningest manager in franchise history has been fired.
Over nine seasons in Colorado, Black compiled a 543-690 record.
The Rockies at just 7-33, is off to the worst 40 game start in National League history. It also ties for the second worst start in MLB history.
Third base coach Warren Schaeffer has been promoted to interim manager for the remainder of the season. Hitting coach Clint Hurdle will move up to interim bench coach.
General Manager Bill Schmidt said...
"We had a lot of internal talks. I think we're capable of playing better than we've played, and so, it was the right time to make a change."
