The entire island of Puerto Rico is suffering with a massive power outage. All 1.4 million customers with Luma Energy lost power at about 12:40 p.m. Wednesday. There are also at least 328,000 customers without water.
This comes on the heels of another major outage back in December, on New Year’s Eve, which left nearly 1.3 million residents in the dark for several days.
Luma Energy said, “While the cause of the interruption is being investigated, preliminary findings indicate an unexpected shutdown at all generating plants.”
Luma’s goal is to have 90% of service restored within 48-72 hours. Six hospitals, two dams in Carraízo and La Plata, the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport and about 175,000 had power restored Wednesday night.
