With June dubbed as “Pride Month,” Chicago’s Public Library has scheduled several “Drag Story Time” events.
Parents were outside the Beverly Branch Tuesday to protest the Drag Story Time that claimed it was suitable for ages 0-5 years. The event advertised it would be a fun-filled story time with songs, rhymes and books and featured a special drag queen guest performer.
Other story times are scheduled for June 9th @ the Edgewater Branch, June 25th @ the Lozano Branch (bilingual) and July 5th @ the Back of the Yards Branch (bilingual).
Christian Maxwell, congressional candidate said, “They could have had love, acceptance and inclusion by having a normal story time with a normal librarian employee. There was no need to mix a drag queen into the mix.”
Additional events include intergenerational queer art making, “identity-affirming stations” and story time with Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
Several parents were protesting including Danielle Carter saying, “They’re trying to teach our kids and indoctrinate our kids and groom our kids with this transgender b.s. and this LGBTQ.” Others claimed they were pro LGBTQ, but do not agree with these events.
