On June 19, 1910, the first Father’s Day was celebrated in the state of Washington.

President Lyndon B. Johnson had made the first presidential proclamation honoring

fathers in 1966, but it wasn’t until 1972, that President Richard M. Nixon made it a

permanent national holiday and signed into law.
