On June 12, 1939, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum opened for the first time in Cooperstown, NY. The Hall of Fame was established to celebrate and honor the game’s most outstanding contributors. The first five inductees include Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner.
