On May 1, 1930, the name of the planet Pluto was officially announced to the public. Venetia Burney, an 11-year-old girl, suggested the name. Clyde Tombaugh first discovered Pluto on February 18, 1930. The International Astronomical Union reclassified Pluto as a dwarf planet in 2006.
