On April 28, 1789, the historic Mutiny on the Bounty took place when the ship’s master mate Fletcher Christian seized control of the ship over Captain William Bligh. The HMS Bounty was transporting breadfruit saplings from Tahiti to the West Indies. Christian sent Bligh and his loyalists aboard a small boat and set adrift in the Pacific Ocean.
