On April 15, 1912, the Titanic sank into the Atlantic Ocean about 400 miles south of Newfoundland, Canada at about 2:20 a.m. after striking an iceberg two and a half hour earlier. The Titanic left Southampton, England on its maiden voyage on April 10. The ship had 2,200 passengers and crew on board. Over 1,500 people died in the tragedy.
