On March 28, 1960, the first star was laid on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Created by E.M. Stuart, construction began a month prior. The first permanent star honored producer and director Stanley Kramer and was placed near the intersection of Hollywood and Grower. The Hollywood Walk of Fame became an official landmark in 1978, new stars are added yearly and there are currently over 2,700 stars on the sidewalk.
