On February 28, 1940, the first basketball game was aired on television. The game was between two college teams: Fordham vs. Pitt. W2XBS, now known as WNBC, was the experimental pioneer station testing out new, modern technology. The game took place in Madison Square Garden, NYC. Pitt won 57-37.
