Since the 10 inmates have escaped the Orleans Parish Justice Center on Friday, May 16, a fourth person has been arrested and five fugitives have been captured.
Connie Weeden, 59, was arrested on Thursday and is being charged with one felony count of being an accessory after the fact. Weeden is said to have been in contact via phone with fugitive Jermaine Donald who is charged with murder, and sending him money through a phone app following his escape. Weeden is the third woman arrested as an accessory.
Along with Weeden, two other girlfriends of escapees; Cortnie Harris, 32, and Corvanntay Baptiste, 38, were also arrested on Wednesday with one felony count of being accessories after the fact. Jail maintenance worker Sterling Williams, 33, was arrested on Monday for allegedly shutting off the water in the cell where the inmates escaped through a hole behind a toilet.
There is also a question why the sheriff didn’t request for the crime scene to be processed at the jail. The DA is asking for voluntary DNA samples and fingerprints be submitted from the sheriff and her employees.
Five inmates are still on the loose including Jermaine Donald, Derrick Groves, Antoine Massey, Leo Tate and Lenton Vanburen. Donald, Groves and Vanburen were charged with second-degree murder.
There is a $20,000 reward for information leading to their arrest.
