With over 100 active wildfires burning in Canada, smoke is spreading down into the northern parts of the United States. Of the 181 wildfires, 92 are considered to be “out of control” still. Dry conditions and barely any precipitation continue this week, making it difficult to control the fires from Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan provinces, which are in a state of emergency. About 25,000 residents have evacuated thus far.
The Upper Midwest, such as northwest Minnesota, northwest Wisconsin, eastern Minnesota, Upper Peninsula in Michigan, and North Dakota are at risk of unhealthy air quality, as well as cities including Waukegan to Sheboygan, Milwaukee, Minneapolis and Omaha (NE).
US states including Alaska, Arizona, and Oregon have sent aircrafts and personnel to assist with the fires.
