A Brazilian nun, who just became the world’s oldest person in January, died at age 116. Sister Inah Canabarro was born on May 27, 1908 during Theodore Roosevelt’s presidency, at a time when penicillin hasn’t been discovered and when movies were still silent. Sister Canabarro passed in her home of natural causes.

Sister Canabarro began her religious work as a teenager and would say her Catholic faith was the secret to her long life. Sister Canabarro once said, “God is the secret of life. He is the secret of everything.”

Pope Francis honored her with a special blessing on her 110th birthday.

Ethel Caterham, a British woman has now been deemed the world’s oldest person at age 115 years and 254 days, after Sister Canabarro’s death.
